Investors request an en banc review by the appellate court judges in the Argentina case
The panel ruled by a vote of 2 to 1 that investors related to YPF, the Argentine oil company, do not have the right to enforce this judgment. The case stems from Argentina's 2012 nationalization of the company. In March of this year, the panel determined that the previous Manhattan federal district court ruling in favor of the former shareholders was legally erroneous. These shareholders claimed that Argentina's nationalization of the oil company caused them losses. Burford Capital, which provided litigation financing for this case and stood to share in a substantial compensation, saw its stock price plummet sharply and remain weak following the news of the ruling. With interest included, the total judgment amount has swollen to over $18 billion.
