Smart contracts will lead the cryptocurrency market by 2025, says Grayscale

The ever-evolving cryptocurrency market is gearing up for a promising 2025, with smart contracts emerging as the star of the show. Grayscale Research, a renowned digital asset manager, has published a report with optimistic forecasts for the sector, indicating that smart contract platforms are expected to drive the market in the first quarter of 2025.

In a scenario where innovation is key, competition between platforms is intensifying. Grayscale's report highlights that, despite the advances in Ethereum , including the approval of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and significant updates, other networks such as Solana , Sui and TON are gaining ground and conquering a considerable share of the market. This dynamic demonstrates the constant search for faster, more efficient and scalable solutions.

“The cryptocurrency smart contract platform sector may be the most competitive market segment in the digital asset industry. While 2024 was a banner year for category leader Ethereum — which was approved for spot exchange-traded products (ETPs) in the U.S. and underwent a major upgrade — the Ether token underperformed certain competitors, including Solana, the second-largest asset in the category by market cap. Investors also turned their attention to other Layer 1 networks, including high-performance blockchains like Sui, as well as TON, a blockchain integrated with the messaging platform Telegram.”

Grayscale analysts also pointed for the growth of tokenization, DePin (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) and scaling solutions as crucial factors for the development of the market.
