International Law Enforcement Operation Successfully Dismantles Darknet Crime Market "Archetyp Market" That Relied on XMR for Transactions
According to CryptoSlate, an international law enforcement operation has successfully dismantled "Archetyp Market," one of the world's largest darknet criminal marketplaces. The platform is estimated to have generated over €250 million (approximately $267 million) in sales, relying exclusively on the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero (XMR) for transactions.
The operation was coordinated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office in Germany, the German Federal Criminal Police Office, the Spanish National Police, and the Dutch National Police. On June 11, Spanish police tactical units arrested the 30-year-old German ringleader in Barcelona, seizing eight mobile phones, four computers, 34 storage devices, and assets valued at approximately €7.8 million ($8.3 million). Germany and Sweden also conducted further joint actions against vendors associated with the marketplace, with Swedish authorities arresting seven suspects. The main suspect will face charges under German law for operating a large-scale drug trafficking network.
