Joey Santoro, a decentralized finance (DeFi) developer, revealed that a friend of his recently lost $2 million in a sophisticated deepfake scam. The scammers used an audio deepfake of Paul Faecks, founder of the stablecoin blockchain Plasma, to pitch a consulting position to Santoro’s friend and, during the call, lured the victim into opening a file, thereby obtaining their passwords and private keys.
