Founder Responds to FUD: Telegram Has No Reliance on Russian Funds, Bonds Unrelated to Equity
PANews, January 7 – Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated that despite some recent FUD, Telegram has no connection to Russia in its capital structure, and there were “absolutely no Russian investors” involved in its recent $1.7 billion bond issuance. The old bonds issued in 2021 have been mostly repaid and do not pose a problem. He emphasized that bondholders are not equivalent to shareholders, and currently, he remains the sole shareholder of Telegram.
It was reported yesterday that Telegram’s $500 million bonds in Russia were frozen due to Western sanctions.
