US Jobless Claims Rise Slightly, Surpassing Expectations
The US Department of Labor reported on Thursday that new unemployment insurance claims increased to 208,000 for the week ending January 3. This figure was above the previous week's revised total of 200,000 and narrowly missed the forecast of 210,000.
Meanwhile, the four-week average of jobless claims dropped by 7,250, settling at 211,750 compared to the prior week's revised average.
The report also revealed that the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate remained at 1.2%. Continuing jobless claims climbed by 56,000, reaching 1.914 million for the week ending December 27.
Impact on Financial Markets
Following the release of these labor market figures, the US Dollar saw modest gains. The US Dollar Index (DXY) hovered near 96.80, supported by a general rise in US Treasury yields.
