according to Coingecko, 53.2% of cryptocurrencies on the GeckoTerminal platform have gone to zero, with the vast majority occurring in 2025. In 2025 alone, 11.6 million tokens went to zero, accounting for 86.3% of the total tokens that went to zero between 2021 and 2025, with 7.7 million tokens crashing in the fourth quarter alone, accounting for 34.9% of all recorded project failures.
It is reported that due to the convenience of launching tokens on issuance platforms, a large number of low-cost "meme coins" and projects have flooded the market. Data shows that the total number of cryptocurrency projects surged from 428,000 in 2021 to nearly 20.2 million in 2025.
