The sweeping win by the LDP in Japan bodes well for risk assets
LDP and Coalition Projected for Strong Victory in Lower House
NHK has reported that, as of 11:30 pm local time, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is expected to secure 273 seats in Japan's Lower House, while its ally, Ishin, is anticipated to win 24 seats. Exit poll data indicates that the LDP is on track to achieve a solo majority, and when combined with its coalition partner, the alliance is poised to claim a two-thirds supermajority—enough to override decisions from the Upper House.
This decisive outcome would grant Takaichi greater autonomy in shaping policies and enhance her capacity to advance both economic and diplomatic initiatives. During a televised appearance as results were still being counted, Takaichi highlighted the significance of the coalition's projected win.
