The Conference Board's Leading Economic Index (LEI) for the United States Fell Again in December
US Leading Economic Index Continues Downward Trend in December 2025
The Conference Board's Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for the United States dropped by 0.2% in December 2025, reaching a value of 97.6 (with 2016 as the base year at 100). This decrease follows a 0.3% decline in November and a revised 0.2% drop in October. Over the latter half of 2025, the LEI decreased by 1.2%, showing a notable improvement compared to the 2.8% reduction seen in the first six months of the year.
According to Justyna Zabinska-La Monica, Senior Manager of Business Cycle Indicators at The Conference Board, "December marked the fifth straight month of decline for the US LEI, pointing to ongoing economic weakness as we enter early 2026."
