ECB does not need to hurry with rate hikes, Schnabel states
ECB Urged to Take Cautious Approach on Interest Rate Hikes
Isabel Schnabel, a member of the European Central Bank's executive board, emphasized on Friday that the ECB should avoid making hasty decisions to increase interest rates in response to rising inflation. Instead, she recommended that the bank carefully assess whether the current inflation spike is likely to persist before taking action.
Following the ECB's recent upward revision of its inflation forecasts, policymakers are weighing whether to intervene with rate hikes to curb accelerating prices or to wait and see if the inflationary pressures subside on their own. Speaking at a university event in Zürich, Schnabel, known for her more hawkish stance within the ECB, stated, "There is no immediate need for action. We have the opportunity to thoroughly review the data and conduct our analysis."
