Charles Hoskinson demands apology after influencer challenges Midnight Network bridge on Cardano

Tensions rose in the Cardano ecosystem following a public dispute between Charles Hoskinson, the blockchain‘s founder, and community influencer ItsDave_ADA regarding the Midnight Network bridge’s launch design. The conversation spotlighted deep divisions within the community about Cardano’s future direction and approach to privacy-focused sidechains.

The mainnet launch and immediate controversy

On April 1, 2026, Charles Hoskinson took to social media to demand a public apology from ItsDave_ADA after the influencer criticized the design of the Midnight Network bridge interface with Cardano. The Midnight Network, which launched its mainnet in late March 2026, aims to provide privacy-centric blockchain services and is supported by major backers such as Google Cloud, Worldpay, and MoneyGram. Hoskinson, a prominent figure in the blockchain industry and the co-founder of both Ethereum and Cardano, has invested approximately $200 million into the project to facilitate its growth.

The controversy began when Dave, recognized for his active role in the Cardano community, expressed strong concern over the initial unidirectional nature of the Midnight bridge. At launch, users could only trustlessly send assets from Cardano to Midnight, but transferring assets back was subject to delays and potential restrictions. Dave questioned whether this setup truly benefited Cardano holders, emphasizing that assets might be drawn away rather than create new value for the Cardano chain.

Hoskinson responded by highlighting Midnight’s potential to bring billions in value to Cardano over time and directly demanded a public apology from Dave, warning that such negativity could hurt Cardano’s prospects. He also compared recent developments to prior situations where internal community rifts caused lasting divisions.

Hoskinson shared on social media that “the largest project on Cardano, which will add billions of dollars in value to Cardano, is being treated this way,” and cautioned that this negativity risked damaging the community’s future.

Dave, for his part, requested specifics on what warranted an apology and pressed for clear explanations of how value would substantially return to Cardano from Midnight, given the bridge’s current limitations.

Community reaction and technical debate

The debate triggered widespread conversations among Cardano supporters and critics alike. Some community members defended Hoskinson, acknowledging his personal investment and long-term vision for Cardano and Midnight as symbiotic projects. They warned that ongoing infighting could undermine progress and referenced past public disputes as cautionary tales.

Other prominent voices took Dave’s side, insisting that questioning project decisions is vital to a decentralized ethos. They maintained that his concerns about the bridge’s unidirectionality were legitimate and reflected a desire to protect Cardano’s interests. Critiques also arose regarding potential censorship, the risk of fees, and control over asset movement back to Cardano.

Some users accused Dave of spreading negativity or acting on ulterior motives, which he denied. Others appreciated his scrutiny and argued that fostering open debate was essential for healthy network development. While some agreed Dave was right to question technical choices, they objected to characterizing the intentions behind Midnight as hostile toward Cardano.

The Midnight Network’s team clarified that the current bridge structure is not permanent, although no fixed timeline for a truly trustless, bidirectional bridge has been shared. This uncertainty added to the ongoing debate about the project’s real impact on Cardano’s ecosystem and token value.

Cardano’s community has seen passionate discussion on the balance between innovation, transparency, and critical feedback. As of now, the requested apology has not been given, while ongoing debate reflects broader questions about the future integration of privacy-oriented sidechains in major blockchain networks.
