US Consumer Sentiment Drops Sharply in April
According to preliminary data released by the University of Michigan on Friday, the Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States fell by 10.7% in April compared to the previous month, reaching 47.6. Although this represents an 8.8% increase from the same period last year, the result was below what analysts had anticipated.
The Current Economic Conditions Index also experienced a notable decline, dropping 10.2% from March and decreasing 16.2% compared to March 2025, settling at 50.1. Meanwhile, the Index of Consumer Expectations slipped by 10.8% month-over-month and was down 2.5% year-over-year, registering at 46.1.
Additionally, expectations for inflation over the next year rose significantly from March’s 3.8%.
