RBNZ Governor Supports 2% Inflation Target
Anna Breman, Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), has reaffirmed that aiming for a 2% midpoint inflation target remains suitable for the country. During an interview with Jack Tame on TVNZ's Q+A, Breman was questioned about whether the RBNZ's inflation goal is still relevant, especially as supply disruptions appear to be happening more frequently. Tame noted that some observers believe globalisation may no longer serve as the reliable force for keeping prices down in New Zealand as it once did.
The RBNZ’s mandate is to keep inflation within a 1% to 3% range, as measured by the Consumers Price Index from Statistics NZ, with a particular focus on the 2% mark.
