Nomura Securities: If oil prices remain high, the Bank of England may raise interest rates by 25 basis points this year
Golden Ten Data reported on May 8 that Nomura Securities research analysts stated in a report that if Brent crude oil prices remain around $90 per barrel, the Bank of England may raise interest rates by 25 basis points in 2026. Investors anticipate that high energy prices could push UK inflation higher and may force the Bank of England to further increase interest rates in the coming months. LSEG data shows that the market has now fully priced in two 25-basis-point interest rate hikes by the Bank of England before December.
