SoftBank Plans Large-Scale Battery Production for AI Data Centers
On May 11, SoftBank Group's mobile business division announced plans to initiate large-scale battery cell manufacturing at its factory in Sakai City, Osaka, to meet the growing power demands of artificial intelligence services. In a statement on Monday, SoftBank indicated that it will collaborate with South Korea's Cosmos Lab and DeltaX Co., aiming to achieve mass production starting from the fiscal year beginning in April next year. SoftBank stated that this initiative aims to establish a storage system with an annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt-hour, which data shows will make it one of the largest energy storage production facilities in Japan.
