Golden Ten Data reported on May 11 that Thailand’s largest refinery, Thai Oil Pcl, is shifting its focus to sourcing crude oil from Africa and the Americas in order to reduce dependence on the Middle East and ensure stable domestic supply. According to CEO Pongpun, in April and May, crude oil imported from Africa has risen to account for 39% of the company’s total purchases, whereas previously this proportion was nearly zero. Meanwhile, the share of Middle Eastern crude in total purchases has dropped significantly from 91% to about 35%, while crude from North America and South America has climbed to around 18%.
