The S&P 500 index closed preliminarily up by 0.5%, with the telecommunications sector rising 2.6%, the technology sector up 0.8%, the energy sector up 0.2%, and the utilities sector down 1.2%.

The Nasdaq 100 Index closed up 1% in preliminary trading. Among its components, Marvell Technology gained 8%, Arm Holdings rose 6.3%, Palo Alto Networks (PANW) increased 5.9%, Micron Technology, Zscaler, and Pinduoduo each climbed at least 4%. Palantir fell 4.2%, Thomson Reuters dropped 5.7%, nuclear power stock CEG declined 6.2%, and AppLovin slid 7.5%. Salesforce dropped 2.8% in preliminary trading, Home Depot fell 2.5%, IBM lost 2.1%, leading the Dow Jones component stocks lower, while NVIDIA, 3M, Cisco, and Johnson & Johnson all rose more than 2%. The Semiconductor Index was up 2.5%, while the Banking Index fell 1.3%.
