According to people familiar with the matter, the American artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is close to achieving its first quarterly operating profit, as its sales have significantly surpassed the enormous costs of developing and deploying artificial intelligence.

The source also said that Anthropic informed investors in recent fundraising materials that its sales in the second quarter could reach at least $10.9 billion, more than double the $4.8 billion in the first quarter.

This person, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that this would push the company's second-quarter operating profit to $559 million.

Such profitability is rare for the artificial intelligence industry, which is currently struggling to cope with high technological costs.

The huge demand for computing power in artificial intelligence is one such expense, as was also disclosed in SpaceX's IPO filing submitted on Wednesday.

SpaceX stated that Anthropic has agreed to pay $1.25 billion per month until May 2029 to purchase SpaceX's computing power, which includes SpaceX's two major artificial intelligence training data center clusters—Colossus and Colossus II's computing resources.

The documents indicate that either Anthropic or SpaceX can terminate the agreement by giving 90 days' notice, and that fees will be reduced during the capacity increase in this month and next month.

Musk posted on the X platform saying that SpaceX is negotiating with other companies to provide "large-scale artificial intelligence computing services," which will boost the performance of its artificial intelligence division, as the division is currently still operating at a loss.

SpaceX's IPO filing shows that its artificial intelligence division reported an operating loss of about $2.5 billion in the March quarter, with $818 million in revenue.
