Glonghui, May 25 | Nvidia CFO Colette Kress attributed the difficulties faced by other companies during the current memory shortage to their own actions. In an interview, Kress stated that Nvidia anticipated the impending surge in memory prices and placed orders well in advance to secure inventory. Amid supply chain disruptions, Nvidia consistently maintained an edge, ensuring stable supply of key memory chips. During the interview, Kress outlined the company’s strategy to tackle the memory shortage, noting that Nvidia had foreseen this market upheaval long ago. When discussing other companies complaining about rising memory prices, Kress pointed out that many enterprises only realized the surge after the fact, whereas Nvidia had predicted this trend and completed procurement early on—a move all companies should have planned for in advance. She also revealed that Nvidia did not purchase spot memory, but instead collaborated with suppliers to produce chips based on orders. She stated: “Suppliers work with us on joint customized R&D and then determine the actual supply volume. We don’t cooperate with just one manufacturer, but engage with all three major memory suppliers simultaneously. The company clearly outlines its product development plans and coordinates collaborative production with all suppliers. Currently, no other company has adopted this kind of partnership model.”
