(1) Despite the near-total closure of the Strait of Hormuz, three liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers recently managed to transit the passage, with cargoes supplied by Qatar and United Arab Emirates heading toward major buyers. (2) Ship tracking data shows that the tanker "Al Rayyan" was anchored near Ras Laffan, Qatar, around May 22 and temporarily lost signal, later reappearing on Monday north of Muscat, Oman; the "Fuwairit" tanker stopped sending signals while partially crossing the Strait, then reemerged north of Muscat and is heading to Pakistan. (3) Another LNG tanker loaded at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's Das Island also left the Strait of Hormuz and was spotted over the weekend en route to India. Since the outbreak of war in late February, LNG exporters in the Persian Gulf have been working to move fuel stranded in the region.
