An oil tanker exiting the Strait of Hormuz turned back after approaching the U.S. Navy blockade and has returned to the Gulf of Oman.
A supertanker carrying Iraqi crude oil that departed the Persian Gulf on Sunday appeared to stop before reaching the U.S. Navy blockade line and has now turned back toward the Gulf of Oman. Ship tracking data shows that the ultra-large crude carrier “Agios Fanourios I” crossed the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman last weekend and is now returning along its original route at a low speed of about 5 knots. The vessel previously loaded crude oil from the Basra Oil Terminal and currently still lists its destination as the Nghi Son Refinery in Vietnam. “Agios Fanourios I” stopped when it was about to enter the Arabian Sea, then turned around and headed back to the Gulf of Oman. Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency earlier reported that the ship was following the route designated by Tehran when passing through the Strait of Hormuz. (CCTV)
