South Korea plans to allow foreign investors to directly trade domestic ETFs
At present, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index has seen a sharp increase, which is expected to attract more overseas capital into the market. Related reports indicate that the Korea Financial Services Commission is working to revise relevant industry regulations to allow foreign investors to directly invest in domestic exchange-traded funds, with a preliminary announcement planned for next month. According to officials from Korea's financial authorities, further opening up of the financial market can boost the demand of foreign capital for Korean assets and increase inflows of US dollars. Analysts believe that if the Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Finance reach a consensus on withholding tax issues and brokers complete trading system upgrades, this policy could be officially implemented in the second half of the year.
