NEAR Protocol will launch dynamic sharding, with the protocol automatically increasing the number of shards as demand grows.
Foresight News reports that NEAR Protocol will launch the Dynamic Resharding feature. This upgrade will enable the protocol to automatically increase the number of shards based on demand, without manual intervention. Currently, adding shards in NEAR still requires a complete protocol upgrade, including validator coordination, voting, and phased deployment. After the launch of dynamic resharding, when a shard reaches the state size threshold, it will automatically split deterministically and be verified by state witnesses. This feature will enhance NEAR’s horizontal scalability and support shard contract infrastructures such as NEAR Intents to automatically scale according to demand. At the same time, network upgrade 2.13 will also introduce post-quantum secure signatures, which are expected to go live in June.
